You can find the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Maryland filled with crowds from late August to early September every year. Timonium is made up of two unincorporated communities of Lutherville and Timonium so if you are lost and asking for directions remember to indicate that you are looking for the State Fair Grounds and most people will be able to get you there.
Agriculture is just as important in the state of Maryland as it is in many other North American States and you can find stiff competitions in the farming arena at this fair. There are judging competitions on everything from the best honey to the best tobacco, with hay, vegetables and fruits in between. It isn’t any easier in the livestock arena, either. You’ll find debates over the proper wool and fleecing and who’s got the best cheeses?
Visitors to the fair can enjoy activities ranging from the Horse and Pony Shows to the Home Arts Shows to the ‘Battle of the Beast’ Bull riding Competition. You can even find your way around to the horse stalls to admire the horses that have been on show. Do be careful not to get too close, no matter how much you may want too, as some horses and ponies are known to be upset by the crowds and noise of the fair.
The fair also hosts many sponsored baking events, such as the Great American SPAM Championship, which is being held all over the country to look for the best SPAM incorporating recipes. You can also check out the Eagle Brand Cookie Bar Bonanza and the KC Masterpiece Memorable Meal Contest.
You can catch a Light Rail to the state fair several times daily. There is also bus service available for visitors during the fair which will bring people to the fair via a route that begins at the University Hospital in Baltimore. The Park and Ride will bring visitors direct to the fair from outlying free parking lots.

Mobile, Alabama hosts The Greater Gulf State Fair in late October to the delight of both residents and visitors alike. The 90 acre fairgrounds located on the west side of Mobile is equipped with grandstand, midway and exhibit buildings for the annual showcase and attractions.
Carnival rides delight the young at heart while concerts entertain music patrons. More adventurous spirits may be inclined to enjoy the rodeo and roping events as well as numerous side show attractions.
Alabama has one of the state fairs that takes advantage of the late fall schedule to give travelers a more favorable climate and lower travel rates. Late fall is becoming a more popular vacationing season especially with childless or older couples. Weekend leaf tours and last of the harvest agricultural tours are especially popular.
The Greater Gulf State Fair offers just such a last of fall destination for this crowd. Crisp fall air and less crowded highways are just a few of the advantages awaiting the late fall traveler.
Mobile is a county seat and the only saltwater port in Alabama. Its greater metropolitan population of about half a million can boast a history that dates back to the early 1700’s. The city’s Mardi Gras celebration is the nation’s oldest. Hank Aaron and Jimmy Buffet are notable natives of Mobile which has been the hometown of several famous persons.
This coastal city with its many attributes is accessible by means a public airport and major highways. It accommodates travelers in modern hotels and motels at moderate prices. Three star hotels with banquet facilities are within ten miles of the Mobile Airport.

The Illinois State Fair is held annually in the beginning of August in the town of Springfield. Visitors to the fair can enjoy some of the many events and entertainments included in general admission or pay a little extra to see tractor pulls, truck pulls and freestyle motocross at the Arena. If you want to pay the higher cost you can also check out the popular musical acts that often play at the Grandstand.
Children will enjoy the Kids Korner set up in the Emmerson Building on the fairgrounds. There’s always clowns, magicians, storytellers and folksingers wandering around. They can also enjoy a variety of puppet acts and face painting or take part in a Coloring Mural.
Adults and families will be able to find entertainment in the Happy Hallow. Stage acts have included such thrills as the Great White Shark Exhibit and Show with highlights involving divers entering the waters, and audience members getting a close up view of the sharks. Or those looking for something a little more comedic can see shows like the Peers Muttville Comix Dog Show. Watch Johnny Peers and his fifteen show dogs perform an amazing number of tricks, high wire walks, and see the dogs walk all over Johnny in a live act.
There is also the Ethnic Village where visitors can sample flavors and sounds from all over the world. You can eat Gyros from Greece, Jerk Chicken from Jamaica, and Banana Turon from the Philippines. Grab yourself a Reuben Sandwich and head over to the stage where you can hear the sounds of Irish music or the beat of the African drums.
Conservation World at the fair is filled with acts and information that can show you ways to help preserve and conserve the environment, while being entertained. There’s usually a Bird Sanctuary Show that allows visitors and up close view of some of the birds of the world.
